Atrophic vaginitis
Thinning of vaginal tissues with irritation, pain and inflammation; due to loss of estrogen at menopause.
Estradiol
A potent type of estrogen produced by the body; the predominant form of estrogen before menopause. The active ingredient in VAGIFEM^® tablets.
Estrogen
Hormone secreted by the ovaries that influences a woman's sexual development and menstrual cycle.
Menopause
The cessation of menstrual periods; occurs at the time of a woman's final menstrual period, but is determined following 12 months without a period. Average age among women is 51 years.
Symptom
Any complaint believed to be an indicator of disease. For example, vaginal dryness or irritation can be symptoms of atrophic vaginitis.
Vagina
Lower part of the birth canal; receives semen from the penis and allows menstrual flow to exit.

How VAGIFEM^® works

VAGIFEM^® is the only prescription vaginal estrogen tablet. It is easily inserted into your vagina with the preloaded, single-use applicator. The tablet dissolves gradually, releasing estrogen into the walls of the vagina, where it is needed.

When used as directed, VAGIFEM^® is designed to relieve the symptoms and discomfort of atrophic vaginitis, including dryness, soreness, and irritation. It may take 2 to 7 weeks to gain full benefits of VAGIFEM^®.

VAGIFEM^® provides estrogen directly to irritated vaginal tissues where it is needed, with minimal absorption by other organs of the body. The estrogen contained in VAGIFEM^® is called estradiol—which is the same estrogen that your body produced before menopause.
